Welcome to my blog!  There are two reasons why I felt compelled to begin a blog about Canada.  First, critical perspectives on Canada’s social, cultural, economic, and political landscapes are sorely lacking.  While excellent critical voices exist, there are far too many, as the eccentric Slovenian celebrity-philosopher Slavoj Žižek would call them, false Leftists.  That many potentially valuable critical voices are cloistered away in academia and publishing jargon laden articles in obscure scholarly journals that the public is unlikely to ever access doesn’t exactly elevate the public discussion either.  In any case, this blog is unabashedly and unapologetically Left wing in its orientation.  However, sacred cows on the Left will still be gored, hypocrisies will be highlighted regardless of one’s political stripe, and uncomfortable truths about Canada will be told.  If I’m not ruffling feathers, then I’m not doing a very good job over here.  This leads to the second reason for starting this blog for the country seems to be afflicted with a refusal to have honest conversations about its direction and, perhaps of greater importance, its history.  Not coming to terms with the past, as evidenced by the general nonexistence of Canadian history in the public consciousness, seems to be leaving Canada rudderless.  Having said all of that, I will be over the moon to gain any sort of readership, especially one that challenges the thoughts and arguments being presented here.  So, comments are always welcome as long as they are thoughtful and respectful.
